Fellow south Asian here. When I talk about violence against Indian women, both in India and in the diaspora, people look at me like I have 5 heads. I guess as a community we do such a good job of silencing women that no one, within the community or outside of it, believes that DV is such a massive public health problem affecting Indian women.
