Honestly, the phrase “southern hospitality” always mystified me. I’m biracial, and my family’s experiences down south (but honestly up north too, because there’s a lot of racism here) stood in stark contrast to those of my white friends who always had so much to say about southern hospitality and how nice everybody was. As though the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow doesn’t live on.
