I hear you. Tuskeegee rattles me to my core, and you're so right, it's not talked about like it's something that actually happened. JID covered it more comprehensively in his song, Skeegee, than any published history books seemed to do. I felt the same way when the COVID vaccine came out. It felt like they were forcing it on essential workers, such as myself, because we couldn't stay home. The essential workforce, particularly in human services, is disproportionately BIPOC, while the management is almost entirely white. I felt like a guinea pig, and so did my coworkers. Hold onto that healthy distrust. Maybe I'm jaded, but I feel like when we finally believe that we can let our guard down, that's when we're really in trouble.
