I’ve worked as a case manager in two states at this point and what really strikes me is that when mothers are in this predicament, there’s no relief. It’s to the point where a child or teen can legitimately be endangering the safety of his mother and those risks are completely ignored. I’ve seen everything from wild threats to straight up hostage situations and the police have taken hours to show up, shared misinformation about serving orders of protection (excuses for why they can’t or don’t want to) and just generally endangered the mother and other kids in the home. It’s as though domestic violence doesn’t…count…unless it’s partner on partner. And I see that Raedy mentioned there’s definitely a link between this and mass shootings.
