My dad is south Asian and speaks several languages. Even his parents, who refuse to speak English, speak more than one language. Language can be used to divide people but can also bring people together. I’m multiracial and although I don’t have any Hispanic heritage, I do speak Spanish and work in an environment where most of my coworkers are Spanish-speaking. Honestly, learning Spanish is the best decision I ever made. It’s taken (and continues to take) a lot of work but the sense of community it’s brought me is absolutely worth it.
