The wildest thing is that if anyone should understand systemic discrimination, it would be Indians. Our caste system is literally designed to prevent upward mobility. Meritocracy is an absolute myth, there and here in the US. Of course, when I’ve spoken to fellow Indians, they’ve preferred to deny the existence of the caste system or dismiss it as something from long ago, much like white people do when it comes to racism in the US. I think sometimes, upper caste Indians have a hard time understanding that in America, nobody cares about the high social status they had in India. It actually seems to make white people hate Indians, as an overall group, even more.
