Unfortunately we (Indians) do have our own homemade…concoctions, if you will, that lighten the skin. My sister had told me about a “face wash” my dad and thathi had wanted her to use. Sometimes, I think about who we were before colonization and invasion by lighter-skinned societies. I wonder if we always hated our skin and thick, curly hair (specific to the region my family is from, a lot of Indian women have straight hair) or if we learned to hate ourselves after invasion and colonization
