Yes, I definitely have mixed feelings about CAPTA. There’s definitely children who need to be removed due to imminent safety risks but they’re not always the ones who are removed…and the system is very reactive rather than proactive. I do wish that a lot of my fellow social workers understood how humiliating and destructive social service involvement can be. There’s a reason why families see us all as “the lady” and have a hard time trusting us. It’s cause under the pretense of doing good, we do cause a lot of harm as well. I do believe that CPS is necessary in some capacity because of the devastating level of abuse and neglect the majority of my kiddos have experienced, but I’d like to see a system that truly prioritized the rehabilitation of families when possible, and the genuine safeguarding and healing of children regardless of what their permanency plan is. Thank you for reading. ❤️🩹
